This year, Canada becomes my favorite destination as I will be in Vancouver next summer to curate the retro and indie games show Evolution with Malcolm Levy and Kim Voll.
Before it, I am more than delighted to fly to Toronto to attend the Vector Festival which is one of the very few events in the world dedicated to art and games.
Skot Deeming invited me to present Machiniglitch, a machinima exhibition I curated for the Festival Gamerz in Aix-en-Provence last october. This time it won’t be shown as a permanent exhibition but as a screening on the 22nd of february. I am very happy to participate to this festival with this program and to see how the audience will react to bugs , accidents and glitches in games and machinima.
Skot also invited me to participate to the panel discussion Machinima and contemporary art with Eddo Stern, Clint Enns, Foci + Loci (Chris Burke + Tamara Yadao), Angela Washko, moderated by Emma Westacott (OCADu). We’ll critically discuss machinima as an experimental/ Avant garde practice rather than a fan one.
It will be also a great occasion for me to meet people I’ve known by name for such a long time without having the opportunity to meet in IRL. I also enjoy to discover the Punk arcdae exhibition, as well as the debate Curating games and games based artworks, which is a subject I am very interested in, as we are always looking for good ways to show games in a public context.
